St. John Chrysostomos:
Alas for us, alas! How many righteous men and Prophets desired to see what we have seen, and did not see it, and to hear what we have heard, and did not hear it (cf. St. Matthew 13:17)! And yet we mock them. Pay attention, I beg you, "to the things which we have heard, lest at any time we should let them slip. For if the word spoken by Angels was stedfast, and every transgression and disobedience received a just recompence of reward; how shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation?" (Hebrews 2:1-3). For tell me, what is the purpose of the Gospel of Grace? Why did the Son of God come in the flesh? So that we may bite and devour one another (Galatians 5:15)?
